Mnweni Cultural Experience
Description 3 day, 2 night Mnweni Cultural Experience & Wilderness Trail into the Drakensberg Mountains of KwaZulu-Natal: Day One: Arrive in the Mnweni area situated between Royal Natal Park and Cathedral Peak reserves of KZN Wildlife. Clients meet their trained community guide at the Mnweni Cultural and Tourism Centre. The walk sets off up the Mnweni river valley, following easy contours and visiting Bushman Rock art sites en route. Overnighting is in a sandstone overhang shelter. Day Two: Set off after breakfast to visit more rock art shelters en route to visit traditional herbalists and healers, known as “inyangas and sangomas”, who are often consulted first, before modern medicine. This day also provides incredible mountain scenery and chances to swim in the clear mountain streams. Overnight is at a local homestead, below the spectacular Saddle and Rockeries formation. One can get to meet a family and help with daily chores e.g. fetching water and firewood. Day Three: The return to the centre takes one via some more unique rock art sites in the Ntonjelana valley, before arriving back at the Centre just after lunch. This route provides 3 days of superb scenery and cultural awareness, where one can always follow a path. It is not technically difficult but there may be steep uphill approaches to the Rock Art shelters. Drakensberg Wilderness Trail
